A ‘Vinyasa Short’ back-strengthening sequence for variety

May 10, 2016 By Tania Ingrahm Leave a Comment

Back strengthening sequence

We focus on back strengthening in this Vinyasa Short, but at first glance it may fool you.

Even though back strengthening is the main focus, this sequence includes a wide range of movements: twisting, forward folding and of course, awareness and strength of the entire core. What this means is that the whole trunk gets involved.

Oftentimes when we think about strengthening the core, we think mainly in terms of the front side of the body; but if you think more in terms of wrapping the muscles around the entire trunk, it’ll help you visualize how the body is really working to create stability.

A fun feature of this sequence is that it takes you all over your mat—keeping your students’ interest and awareness sharp. No going on automatic here!

As always, modify the movements to suit your body and your students’ level of practice.

It’s much more fun to teach when you feel excited and inspired about your class material. I hope these little snippets of class sequences give you a starting place for that inspiration.
