Floating through life’s challenges: Navasana
This week’s pose is a real crowd pleaser…ummmm, well, not really. It’s usually done with a scrunched face while holding the breath.
So let’s see what we can do to bring a little ease to this classic asana.
(Be sure to download the pdf of this tip sheet at the bottom of this post.)
asana name = navasana
- nava = boat
- asana = seat
benefits
- strengthens abdominals, hips flexors and spine
- stimulates kidneys, thyroid and prostate glands
- improves digestion
- builds character and determination
contraindications
- headache
- heart conditions
- menstruation
- pregnancy
modifications
- bend knees, arms in same position, or
- bend knees and lightly hold back of thighs, or
- bend knees and place feet on floor.
- If tailbone is sensitive, sit on a folded towel or blanket.
attitude = a feeling of inner strength that lifts you from the mire and helps you float through life’s challenges.

Sweet…so happy it’s useful for you, Enid!
Another nice one Tania and Rupali. We shared your Navasana webpage on Facebook, Twitter, G+ and also on our website at http://www.tummee.com/yoga-sequence-builder/Paripurna-Navasana/138825943481608
I am sure Yoga Instructors will find this very useful when adding their own cues at tummee.com or otherwise.
